Grouping Rules by Rule Set

Rule Sets are a free-style grouping mechanism for Business Rules. Like Classifications, team members can freely enter, change and drop Rule Sets and then classify Business Rules by those Rule Sets.

Classifications are about the type or nature of the rules. In contrast, Rule Sets are about the impact that rules have on each other and on the system as a whole.

Grouping rules by Rule Set is appropriate when rules work together to define a specific mechanism or result.

Examples of Rule Sets are:

· Rules that work together to calculate specific results, such as price calculations or totals in a management report.

· All the rules that are to be implemented by a subcontractor (if that subcontractor's work is not represented by a Business Object or Business Area; otherwise, simply use that Business Object or Business Area to group the rules).

· Rules that cover the same topic, if that topic is too precise or detailed to be represented by a Business Object (otherwise, simply use that Business Object to group the rules).

Rules that are related to the same business process or working procedure are best grouped by Business Process Step and not by Rule Set.
