Default Font

Previous Next

The default font used for text in text objects like text editors is Microsoft Sans Serif. You can reset the default font for the entire application by editing the "usdiw" file in the USoft installation directory. Or you can set up local fonts in the Property Inspector for individual text objects.

In USoft 8.x, multi-line text in text objects took up a little more space than in 7.x, due to increased space between lines. Users used to the 7.x behavior had to zoom out a little to restore the original space. Not every font handles this zoom correctly: the then default font (MS Sans Serif) lost quality when scaled down.

Font zoom may be controlled using the property Initial Zoom (resource name initialZoom). This property allows you to influence the initial size of the font used in a text object. By default, this property has the value 0. Negative numbers scale down, positive scale up. You can either set this property generically, by adding a line like

*TopCase*Text.initialZoom: -1

to your "usdiw" file or on the command line. Alternatively, you can set it for individual text objects using the Property Inspector in USoft Windows Designer.
