Owned vs. Shared Data Contents

Previous Next

While some data elements are used in one process only, other objects, relationships, or attributes are shared among processes.

For each table object, relationship or domain, you can express whether it is owned or shared by the business object in which it is defined. The data elements can be owned by only one business object, making it feasible to manage them, while multiple business objects can share them.

The larger your repository is, the more important it becomes to assign data elements to specific business objects. As the business objects themselves are assigned to the sub-project building and testing them, this gives more control over responsibility. Make it a repository management responsibility to safeguard this process, for example, to check whether there are data elements that are not owned by a business object at all.
