Guidelines for Writing Business Rules

Previous Next

When you first write a Business Rule, you only need to provide a unique Rule ID and a textual Definition. First find out if the Rule you want to write does not already exist. If it does not, concentrate on writing the Definition text, leaving all the other definitions, classifications, uses and possibilities until later.

The following guidelines are explained in detail in other Help sections:

Write Business Rules in such a way that they are easy to understand for target readers.

Use affirmative and definite statements that are easy to validate and verify at later stages.

Use Business Rules to express functional requirements, not technical requirements.

Write Business Rules in such a way that they are stand-alone, i.e. that they can be understood independently of other Business Rules.
