The global.asa file is used to make global data available to all web pages. The global.asa file is processed automatically by the web server whenever individual users start and stop browser sessions to access a server page.

Typically, application and session variables are initialized in the global.asa file. You can also initialize your own server session variables and application variables in this global.asa file.

If you want to edit the global.asa file and have it re-published automatically after each Publish, you must place the user-defined global.asa file in the Alternative Template folder of your publication.
