Column Rights

Previous Next

A column right is the right that a specific user group of a specific application has to access a specific column (called Application Column) of a specific table (called Application Table) of that application.

WARNING: Column rights are difficult to interpret and maintain. Often, it is possible and clearer to allow or restrict access rights on the entire record (Table Rights), instead of differentiating by column.

To define column rights:

1.Choose Define, Column Rights.

The Column Rights window appears.

2.Complete the dialog as follows:

Enter the name of the application, or click the Lookup button to choose one from the list.

Enter the name of a user group, or click the Lookup button to choose one from the list.

Enter the name of a table, or click the Lookup button to choose one from the list.

Specify the column in the Column Name field, and then, in the Access Right field, specify which right you want to grant at the column level (Lookup buttons are available on both fields).

Set a Scope setting.

If any (previously defined) conditions apply to the foreground, and background rights, enter their IDs by means of the Lookup buttons on the Frgrnd Condition ID, and Bckgrnd Condition ID fields.

3.Save your changes.
